Peanut Butter Machines
for Kolkata

Kolkata is the gateway to a market most processors overlook. Eastern India, the north-east states, and cross-border trade toward Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal all route through here, and the region is comparatively thinly served by branded packaged food relative to its population. For a peanut butter manufacturer that means less competition for shelf space than in the west or south.

We manufacture the machinery at Jam Kandorna in Rajkot district, Gujarat. More than 500 machine installations and over 100 turnkey projects across 25+ states since 2004, with installation, commissioning and operator training included as standard.

Getting the Size Right

Choose Capacity for Your Market

Over-specifying is the most common and most expensive mistake we see. Buy for the demand you can prove, not the demand you hope for.

Starter Line

100–150 kg/day

New brand serving Kolkata retail and eastern general trade.

  • Compact roaster
  • Single-stage grinding
  • Semi-automatic filling
  • 800–1,200 sq ft footprint

Industrial Line

1,000+ kg/day

Contract manufacturer or bulk supplier serving the eastern region.

  • Continuous roasting
  • Automated blanching
  • In-line filling and labelling
  • Bulk storage tanks

Kolkata’s opportunity is reach, not raw material. West Bengal grows very little groundnut, so kernels are an inbound cost from day one — but you are serving a large, under-supplied region from a single point. Model the inbound freight honestly and let distribution reach justify it. Machinery is supplied nationwide from our Rajkot works — only freight to site differs. Budget separately for premises, pollution-board consent, electrical load sanction, internal wiring and civil work. See our plant investment guide, profit margin analysis and automation comparison.

Why Produce Here

Four Reasons Kolkata
Works as a Production Base

Under-Served Region

Eastern India and the north-east carry a large population with comparatively little branded packaged food production. Shelf space is easier to win here than in the western or southern metros.

Gateway to the North-East

A plant here reaches Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and the north-eastern states from one location, on infrastructure that funnels naturally through the city.

Port Access

Kolkata Port and Haldia are available if export toward Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan or Southeast Asia becomes part of the plan.

Established Industrial Base

Howrah and the surrounding belt carry generations of engineering and fabrication capacity, which keeps routine maintenance local rather than a logistics exercise.

From Plan to Production

Setting Up in Kolkata

The order these happen in matters. Pollution-board consent and load sanction routinely take longer than machine manufacture.

01

Secure the Plot

WBIDC estates at Howrah, Dankuni, Kalyani or Haldia are the usual route — confirm the plot permits food processing before committing.

02

Registrations

FSSAI, GST, Udyam and the local trade or factory licence.

03

Consent & Load

Apply to the West Bengal Pollution Control Board for consent and to CESC or WBSEDCL for sanctioned load.

04

Civil & Electrical

Flooring, drainage and wiring completed against our layout and foundation drawings.

05

Delivery & Commissioning

3–4 day road transit from our Rajkot works, then installation and operator training on site.

Apply for load sanction early. We issue a connected-load schedule with every quotation precisely so you can start this before the machines are built. Metering and sanction routinely take longer than manufacture, and it is the most common reason commissioning slips.

Where to Build

Siting a Peanut Butter
Plant in Kolkata

Industrial land splits between the older Howrah belt and the newer estates north and west of the city.

Howrah & Dankuni

Howrah carries the established engineering and fabrication base with good city access. Dankuni offers newer developed plots on the western highway corridor.

Kalyani & Haldia

Kalyani to the north offers organised industrial infrastructure at lower cost. Haldia suits export-oriented units needing port proximity.

Space You Will Need

A 100–150 kg/day line needs roughly 800–1,200 sq ft; a 500 kg/day line 2,500–4,000 sq ft. Budget carefully for a dry, ventilated raw material store — humidity here makes that critical.

Raw Material & Logistics

Sourcing and Delivery

West Bengal grows very little groundnut, so kernels come in from Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. This is the longest inbound leg of any location we supply within India, and it needs planning rather than assuming.

  • Inbound freight is a permanent cost line. Build it into your unit economics from the start rather than treating it as incidental — it does not go away with scale.
  • Buy in larger, less frequent lots to amortise freight, which makes proper dry storage essential rather than optional.
  • Humidity is the enemy here. Kolkata’s climate works against both stored kernels and finished-product shelf life; sealed storage and correct cooling-belt residence time matter more than at an inland site.
  • Aflatoxin management starts at intake. With long-haul kernels arriving in bulk, the sorting table and vibratory sieve are your only rejection point.

Compliance

Licences for a Kolkata Unit

  • FSSAI manufacturing licence — State licence for most units; Central licence above the turnover threshold or if you plan to export.
  • GST and Udyam (MSME) registration — the latter unlocks most subsidy and priority-lending schemes.
  • West Bengal Pollution Control Board consent to establish and consent to operate.
  • Factory licence from the state labour department, plus fire NOC depending on built-up area.
  • Legal Metrology packer registration if you sell pre-packaged retail — it governs how your label declares net quantity.

Rules and thresholds change periodically. Treat this as an orientation checklist, not a compliance reference, and confirm the current position with a local consultant. Our guide to FSSAI compliance for peanut butter manufacturers covers the food-safety side in depth.

Utilities

Power & Load Planning

Kolkata runs standard 415V three-phase 50Hz supply through CESC in the city and WBSEDCL in the surrounding districts. Supply across the organised estates is dependable, so most units size a backup set for grinding and filling only.

Common Questions

Peanut Butter Machines in Kolkata

Yes. We manufacture at our Rajkot, Gujarat facility and deliver across Kolkata. Road transit is approximately 1,900–2,100 km and typically takes three to four days once the machine is dispatched. Installation, commissioning and operator training are part of our standard supply.

Typically an FSSAI manufacturing licence, GST registration, Udyam (MSME) registration, a factory or trade licence from the local authority, and consent to establish and operate from the West Bengal Pollution Control Board. Legal Metrology packer registration applies if you sell pre-packaged retail. Requirements change periodically, so verify current rules with a local consultant.

WBIDC estates are the usual route. Howrah carries the established engineering and fabrication base with good city access, while Dankuni offers newer developed plots on the western highway corridor. Kalyani to the north provides organised infrastructure at lower cost, and Haldia suits export-oriented units needing port proximity.

Standard Indian 415V three-phase 50Hz. A 100–150 kg/day line typically needs 15–25 kW sanctioned load; a 300–500 kg/day line generally needs 40–60 kW; a 1,000 kg/day line 85–130 kW. We issue a connected-load schedule with every quotation so you can apply for the correct sanctioned load before the machines arrive.

Yes, as part of our standard supply. Training covers roast profiling, grinder gap setting, cleaning and changeover routines, and preventive maintenance. Layout and foundation drawings are supplied ahead of delivery so civil and electrical work can be completed before the machines arrive.

It can, but the case rests on distribution rather than raw material. Kernels come from Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh or Odisha, which is a permanent inbound cost line you should model honestly. What you get in return is a large, comparatively under-supplied eastern and north-eastern market served from one location, with less competition for shelf space than in the west or south.

Yes, more than most Indian locations. Humid air slows cooling after roasting and works against both stored kernel quality and finished-product shelf life. Dry, ventilated raw material storage is critical rather than a nice-to-have, and we size cooling-belt residence time for the actual site conditions rather than a generic default.
