Groundnut is not a niche crop in Uganda — g-nuts are a dietary staple, and odii paste is cooked into everyday meals across the country. The northern and eastern districts around Gulu, Lira, Apac and Soroti grow it in volume, and most of it is still ground to order in small mills or sold as loose paste. The commercial gap is the same one that exists across the region: turning a familiar ingredient into consistent packaged product with a shelf life and a brand.

We manufacture the machinery for that at Jam Kandorna in Rajkot, Gujarat, with more than 500 machine installations and over 100 turnkey plant projects delivered since 2004. Uganda is landlocked, so shipments route through Mombasa or Dar es Salaam and travel inland — we supply the full documentation set at the time of import.

Electrical Compatibility

Uganda runs 50Hz supply with 415V three-phase distribution — effectively identical to India. Motors, gearboxes and control panels drop straight in with no frequency conversion and no rewind, unlike machinery built for 60Hz markets.

Paste and Butter on One Line

Traditional odii paste comes off the primary mill directly; sweetened or stabilised retail butter needs a second fine grind and a ribbon blender. Specifying both from the start is usually better than a larger single-product mill.

Repairable On Site

Standard-section stainless fabrication, common bearing sizes and widely available motor frames mean a competent Kampala fabricator can maintain the line. For a landlocked destination that matters more than anywhere.

Generator-Aware Electrics

Soft or star-delta starters on higher-rated grinding motors cut the inrush current that trips generator sets on start-up. A connected-load schedule ships with every quotation so your contractor can size the genset and changeover properly rather than estimating.

Humidity and Storage

Uganda’s equatorial climate is humid year-round, which works against roasted kernel handling and finished-product shelf life. We advise on cooling-belt residence time and sealed storage for the actual site rather than shipping a generic specification.

Spares Held On Site

A recommended spares list ships with the order — grinding stones, bearings, seals and belts. With a port plus an inland leg between you and any replacement, holding wear parts locally is the difference between a half-day stoppage and two months.

Raw Material

Groundnut Sourcing Within Uganda

Production concentrates in the north and east — Gulu, Lira, Apac, Soroti and the surrounding districts — with trade running down to Kampala. For a plant in the capital that means an inbound haul of several hundred kilometres on roads that vary by season.

  • Wet-season transport is the risk. Moisture picked up in transit is what forces roast-profile corrections; covered transport and moisture checks on arrival are worth the cost.
  • Aflatoxin management starts at intake, not at grinding. Smallholder aggregation widens lot variability, so the sorting table and vibratory sieve earn their place.
  • Consider siting north. Some processors put roasting and blanching near Gulu or Lira and move blanched kernels south, which cuts spoilage risk on the inbound leg.
  • Rejecting bad kernels at intake is far cheaper than recalling finished product from the trade.

Before Shipment

You receive general-arrangement layout drawings, foundation details, utility and connected-load schedules, and a full operating and maintenance manual — so your civil and electrical work can be finished before the machines arrive.

On Site

Commissioning support and operator training covering roast profiling, grinder gap setting, cleaning routines and preventive maintenance. Engineer deputation is quoted separately — travel, visa and per-diem are additional. Where an on-site visit is not practical we run remote commissioning over video call, and we will tell you plainly at quotation stage which approach suits your line.

Mombasa on the Northern Corridor is the more common route to Kampala and usually the shorter inland leg. Dar es Salaam on the Central Corridor is the alternative and can be competitive depending on capacity and congestion at the time. Ask your freight forwarder to price both — total landed cost and transit reliability differ meaningfully between them.

Budget roughly 28 to 40 days door to door: sea freight to Mombasa or Dar es Salaam, then road or rail inland, plus clearance. Add two to four weeks for manufacturing and pre-dispatch testing. Treat these as indicative — corridor choice and port congestion move the number.

Layout, foundation and utility drawings are supplied before dispatch so your civil and electrical work can be finished while the consignment is in transit — useful given the inland leg. On site we commission the line and train your operators. Engineer deputation is arranged case by case and quoted separately, covering travel, visa and per-diem; remote commissioning over video is available where a visit is not practical.
